80 PLUS PROGRAM OVERVIEW THE 80 PLUS PROGRAM IS: 80 PLUS Is a nation wide event that incorporates work between electric utility companies and computer manufacturers which provides various incentives to integrate more energy efficient power supplies into desktop computers and servers.
The computer industry's new certified power supplies were made possible by participating utilities and energy efficient organizations who have contributed over $5 million of incentives.
Currently, there are over twenty different power supply manufacturers who have achieved the new 80 PLUS certification. THE 80 PLUS SPECIFICATION: The 80 PLUSŪ performance specification requires power supplies in computers and servers to be 80% or greater energy efficient at 20%, 50% and 100% of rated load with a true power factor of 0.9 or greater.
Ninety percent of computers on the market meet the current ENERGY STARŪ specifications, which were last revised in July 2000. The EPA has finalized updated performance requirements that include 80 PLUS efficiency levels. The updated ENERGY STARŪ Computer Specification (Version 4.0) will go into effect on July 20, 2007.
